Bangalore: Cyber Crime or E-crime is on the rise among middle-aged people, as reported by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). These people range between 30-45 years of age and are usually involved in crimes like illegal gain, eve-teasing and harassment, impersonation, posting abusive messages and stealing photos for misuse. Though the number of crimes by the youth is higher, there has been a significant increase in the number of middle-aged people committing cyber-crime.
Cyber crime is steadily on the rise because of increased use of internet and IT enabled services. It is punishable under the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000 and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). 966 cases were registered under the IT Act in the year 2010 as opposed to 420 cases in 2009, thereby resulting in an increase of 130 percent.
